Oudtshoorn Motor Club had an eXceptional event this past Saturday! Well done to Dirk and his team...you sure put on an event which will be difficult to forget! The entry sheet was impressive with all the top MSA names taking part. There were 54 entries, of which almost all were brilliant cars. The racing was close and eXciting. Dirk phoned me this morning to say that alot of spectators had called him stating that the racing was eXceptional, and that the race had made a good difference to his club. We're glad about that Dirk, and we REALLY enjoyed our weekend! Thanks! On a personal note, I really enjoyed the Junior Hotrod / Development class, in which there were seven competitors. The young-guns enjoy clean, competitive racing, and having a son take part in this class makes it all the more special to me! The HOTrod racing was eXcellent with Nicky Koegelenberg, Jean Meyer, Pieta Victor, Thysie Valentyn, etc fighting for position as usual, BUT this time they had Hennie Steenkamp and Quentin Ellard to contend with. Hennie was super-fast in his new Rotary, as was Quentin Ellard in HIS new Rotary. As far as "Best Prepared" car went - it was obvious!! I couldn't believe how nice Quentin's new car looks!! It is STUNNING!! Everything is shiny, new, and brilliantly prepared!! I thought it would take longer to sort out, but he was already a formidable force by the second heat!! I look forward to watching Hennie and Quentin in the future - those Rotaries were screaming!! Well done to Stephan Weidemann for the setup and preparation (and building) of Quentin's new car - you did a stunning job, and the results showed!! The spirit at Oudtshoorn was, as usual, fantastic!! I took my son and two of his mates on a "Boyz Weekend", which turned out to be the weekend of their lives (according to them). Thysie - well done!! I couldn't believe that you could handle the car that way after having to replace your control arms with my spares. I have never seen a car race on such way-out wheel-alignment, but talk about driving around the problem....you sure did a sterling job!! Koos - thanks!! We had a jol!!! All-in-all it was a major success, except for one minor incident between the family of one driver and another driver, which was so minor that the other driver didn't even want to file an incident report. So...well done once again Mr Dirk die Skurk - as you said, that was an event for the history books!

The neXt events are on 8 October (BIG ONE) at Springbok Motor Club. It's the Namaqualand Challenge again. The same day sees the first race of the season at the new and improved Tygerberg Raceway, and a club race at Victory Raceway. So, October is kicking off with a bang!! Whoop whoop!!

Ok, now back to MSA business.....(if you are not a member of MSA, you don't need to read further). We need to asign car numbers to every single driver. The eXisting numbering system has been wiped clean, so e-mail Nicky with your car number to secure it. The number you choose will be your number throughout all classes, so if, for eXample, you are #75, then there will be NO other 75 - not in any class or club. You need to send Nicky an e-mail with your current (valid) MSA licence number, and which club you belong to.

The rulebook is being revised!! So, if you have any suggestions as to rule changes, etc, please e-mail me with your current (valid) MSA licence number and which club you belong to. You can also liase with your class representative of your club, who will then bring the complete list of deletions / additions / changes to the EXCO meeting to be held on the 21st and 22nd September. Because of the vast scope of things which need to be covered, the meeting will take place over two days, so...we should manage to get through everything. EVERY SINGLE MSA LICENCE-HOLDER has an equal say, so please let us have your input!! ALL suggestions will be tabled and discussed with the various facet Chairpersons. E.G. Let's say that the drivers decide that they want to race three-wheeled cars. This will be taken to the EXCO via the Driver's Chairperson. The Marketing Chairperson might have an input whereby he thinks that the new cars are very marketable, BUT the Technical Chair might say that it won't work, because the cars will fall over while cornering. The Sporting Chair might feel that the Marshall's will be in danger of the unstable cars, etc. So, it will be discussed and a decision will be made. BUT, everybody's idea's will be carried to the EXCO meeting, so please give us your input!!

We need to give in the race dates for the new season. The season will coincide with the calendar year from now on, so 01 Jan - 31 Dec is the season!! The tracks need to submit their club dates from 01 January. Regional Colour's events can take place from 15 February onwards, as can National Events. Please provide us with your preferred National and Regional dates. There needs to be 4 Regional events (which can be run together with a Club event), and six National Events. It is fine to have more than one date per venue, and the first tracks currently outside of the MSA stable to re-join MSA will be given National and Regional dates as well, if the dates are submitted before the EXCO meeting, so....all current tracks should be sure to send us their dates ASAP!!

What is Hot Oval

Hot Oval is a drivers association based on fair play good values and fun. We represent drivers and social members. This means you do now have to be a driver to belong to Hot Oval you can join and be a social member. Hot Oval does not have a full on track which means all members can race at MSA tracks and events. This gives Hot Oval a big advantage.

Hot Oval feels dirt oval track racing needs to be promoted and in this sense does everything to promote oval track racing. We keep the comments and suggestions of drivers and spectators in mind and use this when making decisions.

As the new season is at our door step we will keep you up to date with the racing calendar, when and where we will be.
